Strong verbs are categorized by having a stem-vowel change in at least one tense of the verb. Sometimes this can even be the present tense.
These verbs are generally similar to their English counterparts. Sing in English becomes sang. In German, singen becomes changes the stem-vowel to become sang.
In another examples, the English word speak becomes spoke like the German word sprechen becomes sprach.
