Transnistria is a partially recognized state located in eastern Moldova along the border with Ukraine. The name refers to the River Dniester, west of which constitutes the territorial claims of Transnistria. It is considered a relic of the Cold War as its original claim to independence was declared with the intention to continue as a Soviet republic.
