Hello, this is Xiaokong. In this video, I am teaching you how to speak the four different Chinese tones with an example of "ma". It is important to speak Chinese words in the right tone because different tones correspond to different words, even they have the same pinyin. The four tones are: (1) the flat, (2) the rising, (3) the "V" tone, and (4) the dropping. There is also the fifth neutral tone (not included in this video). Examples of the four tones with "ma" are "mom", "numb", "horse", "curse/scold". Hope you have fun of learning Chinese!

In Western culture, we can nod our heads up-and-down for "yes" and shake them left-and-right for "no". Does Chinese have anything similar, or do they do the same thing? Are there other gestures for "yes" and "no"?
