Present Tense

Il Tempo Presente

Introduction

Introduzione

The indicative present tense is the most often used verb form. It is used to express:
actions currently happening,
actions happening in the near future,
general truths,
and habitual actions.

It is used more often than the present tense is in English. The progressive tense, saying something like "I am learning", is most often translated into as io imparo. Although Italian does have a present progressive tense (Io sto imparando), it is used far less often in Italian than in English.

io ascoltoI listen.
I am listening.
I do listen.
