To ask where, when, why, how, how many and how much question in French, you use the appropriate interrogative adverb and either the subject-verb inversion or est-ce que method discussed in the Yes or No Questions lessons:
   Où est-il?
   Where is it?
or
   Où est-ce qu'il est?
   Where is it that it is?
   Où est-il?
   Where is it?
or
   Où est-ce qu'il est?
   Where is it that it is?
